Massage Descriptions
- Thai Style Massage – is a massage with no oil. You wear a loose fitting attire. Lots of compression/decompression and stretching. Recipients are guided through a series of yoga-like stretches, as well as a combination of abdominal work, breath cues, deep tissue massage, and application of pressure to specific points on the body.
- Swedish – is a style of massage using lubricant (such as massage oil, cream or lotion). The massage is done with minimal to no clothing and you are covered with a sheet. Only the area being massaged is exposed. Massage techniques designed to relax muscles by applying pressure and rubbing in the same direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart. The Swedish massage is one of the most common types of massages therapy you can get. It is performed to energize the body and improve your overall health. This type of massage involves actions like percussion, kneading, vibration, tapping and rolling. Massage oil or lotion is used to protect the skin from friction.
- Deep Tissue – is a style, like Swedish massage but goes deeper with stronger deeper pressure. Less to no medium/lubricant is applied. Some stretching but not as much as Thai Massage. The deeper pressure is beneficial in releasing chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of the muscle tissue, tendons and fascia. Deep tissue massage targets chronic tension in muscles that lie far below the body’s surface. Deep muscle techniques involve slow strokes, direct pressure or friction movements that go across the muscle grain.
- Fusion Massage – is an integrated massage of different modalities to best fit client’s needs to help reduce pain and discomfort.
- Thai Herbal – are steamed herbal bags applied during the massage to help relax the muscles. Warm herbs help stimulate blood circulation and relaxes the whole body. (Not recommend for Pre-Natal).
- Focus (Medical) Massage – Massage concentrates on problem areas most of the time prescribed by physicians.
- Chair Massage – A seated massage that is typically short in duration — 10 to 15 minutes — and focuses on your back, shoulder, neck and arms. Chair massage is usually done over clothes and doesn’t require any massage medium.
- Sports massage – This massage therapy is geared toward athletes of every kind, from world-class professionals to weekend joggers. The particulars of the sports massage technique are specific to the athlete’s sport of choice. Focusing on areas of the body that are overused and stressed from repetitive and often aggressive movements. Sports massage is designed to assist in correcting problems and imbalances in soft tissue that are caused from repetitive and strenuous physical activity and trauma. The application of sports massage, prior to and after exercise, may enhance performance, aid recovery and prevent injury
- Reflexology – Reflexology is a type of massage that involves applying pressure to specific points on the feet, hands, or ears to help the body feel better. Your practitioner will begin massaging your feet and applying pressure to target areas. For example, if your symptoms are associated with your head and neck, the reflexologist may focus on your toes. The reflexologist might use lotions, creams, and powders to loosen the muscles and achieve better results.
- Medical massage therapy is designed to strategically target medical conditions that are diagnosed by a physician. During your medical massage treatment, your therapist will use different massage techniques and procedures. Medical massage therapy helps relax sore or tight muscles, relieve nerve pain, release trigger points, increase blood circulation, and reduce inflammation. Additionally, medical massage avoids the side effects and dependency issues of prescribed pain medications.
